Hazel Steps Revisited

The sands collect the signs of the ocean The winds hold sway to swell the motion The breeze that breathes upon the skin The leaves that leave yet only a skein Along, within, and through the years As stray as they never knew the way Allay the doubt, subdue the fear Afraid they never knew your name These seven years are not so long But long enough for what has come Or may have gathered at your seat Or might have blossomed at our feet Along, within, and through the years As stray as they never knew the way Allay the doubt, subdue the fear Afraid they never knew your name I gather at the heels in one more stand Briars at the feet, flower in hand The delicate world that wrapped around The disparate soul that it surrounds Along, within, and through the years As stray as they never knew the way Allay the doubt, subdue the fear Afraid they never knew your name

Without paper without ink Would you set out to think A song that never was sung With words that were not spoken On lines that have not hung The signs that leave no token Stray with me the strands of intricate layers Strong and swift, swim within this stream Within the whorls that blink About an infinite ocean Stars grow and shrink Collapsing in slow motion With all the world you spin Stay with me the spell of a lucid motion To charm the noumenous deep Calm and sweet, swim within this dream In bone and blood and skin A story safe in keep Sway with me in swing of alternate weather Strong and swift, swim within this stream Wide word in tone will speak Beyond a strange commotion In thought that gathers and leaks Strains of cogent notion Lay with me in swoon of elaborate feather Calm and sweet, swim within this dream Without ink without paper Would you set out to taper A song that never was sung With words that were not spoken On lines that have not hung The signs that leave no token Play with me in fields of nebulous cover Strong and swift, swim within this stream

Shimmers splendent merge, laden tendrils waver Descending drops of water disperse in lucid layer A smile spread over rainbow sky Refracted in the raindrops crying eye They fall away to where the sun hangs brightly Trickling down where on the dews are shown In the play of moments moving lightly On the grounds of morning’s blooming down Every hour of every day, every leaf on every tree Each expression borne of every thought A sudden joy swarmed to a heart with open arms reaching out Through time to set a place for the unthought On that day the welcome is inviting With chime, ceremony and good cheer In the play of moments moving lightly To the sounds of morning breaking clear Here the naked child among the others ‘neath the sun Some thrust forward like snakes Some stood upwise and erect Some stiffened, taut, virginal and prim Some bent dead in curves graceful and thin They grow away to where the sun hangs brightly Trickling down where on the dews are seen In the play of moments moving lightly On the bounds of Morning’s Waking Dream

Childhood made a Poet’s Lyre Hands embroidered in limbs of dark briar Bent to the wind’s plaintive whistling words Scattering whispers in your nettled hood Would they fall to a weathered home With branches of arms for a laden pillow And years wrought of withering laurels Blossoms now on the apple boughs Stars are near to the shaded arbor Once a hand could touch Wherefore the other will search Childhood made a Poet’s Lyre Heart enfolded in wings of black bird Could they fly on feathers borne When lips salute the Hazel’s Horn Or would they crawl through a weathered home Should lips encumber a mordant moan Bent to the wind’s whistling word What cloudy guest at this darkened hearth What cloistered heart to hold the black earth Once a hand could touch Wherefore the other will search

The wind that cracks the leaves Has scattered all the seed Lo, the light limned low Low to the ground The time is all I own And time is come and gone The limbs of life left low Low to the ground To the ground To the ground To the ground The sight that holds my eyes Has made the lovers blind Alike their love laid low Low to the ground I sound the oath to sit In thrall of weathers wit Ally the languished lips Low to the ground To the ground To the ground To the ground The seed that left the tree Will carve a thousand leaves And let them all to cleave Low to the ground

Two Towers 05:05
Wind away the hours laid up to the sun Hide behind two towers When all the world’s work is done Set a life upon the way to bide All that bodies become Left alone along the lay to bind All the mind has shunned Gather up the flowers Born up from the womb Hasten lest they sour A deed brought to the tomb Catch the longing dream that time beguiles From cradle to the bone Lonely limbs just limp in life awhile To touch the weathered home Careless as a willow Constant as an oak Ages churn and wallow Through hands pass as they grope Past and future splayed astride The hollow heaving chest Gnarled hands curve to inscribe The fading notion useless Heedless shall we swallow Our riddles never spoke With the merit of no answer To meliorate the joke Wind away the hours Laid up to the sun Hide behind Two Towers When all the world’s work is done
