Moonlit Missive #41

by In Gowan Ring

Moonlit Missives exclusive
1.
I was painting pictures today, Looking as I draw the eyes Some I think I know; some I guess I’ll never know Or ever see through the disguise In the fanciful game their playing Hide and seek, Peek-a-boo, Masquerade The tricky toys of imagination What a way to play with the light of day! My friend she weaves thin threads into a necklace It takes her a very long time On the front there’s a pattern of roses On the back a knotted mess of twine In a twisty game she’s playing Cat’s Cradle on a Soldier’s Bed Cup and Saucer, a Lucky Tea Kettle Jackob’s Ladder caught on a Spiderweb Life is shuffling hands behind the curtain in the basement The Jack of Diamonds, Ace of Spades A lonely Queen of Hearts, several dusky Deuces The bets are forced, the plays are made Round & round the game of chance, Spinning odds in motion With a Blackjack’s Patience, and a Rummy Bluff Pretty painted cards play with imagination A Crying Call or a Royal Flush? I was casting lines to fit my mind into a poem Inky scratches everywhere Signs and senses jumbling over one another Jostling here and there In a little riddle game I’m playing Text-twist, Word Blur, Balderdash Composite catch of imagination What a way to play with the psychic stash!
