Song of the Night

Once on a night a young man went riding.
The air was so light he felt he was flying.
The sky a deep blue with white moon floating
Among small curling clouds.
He rode through the night his eyes on the horizon.
As over the mountain lightning flashed silent.
He rode through the forests and valleys and meadows.
Dawn through the trees breaking.
At moprning he came to a clean running river
with flowing water that babbled and chattered.
All `the sweet day he brooded and wondered.
And the clean river giggled with laughter.
Chill and the darkness soon came upon him.
He set himself there to kindle a fire.
Into the night the flames spit and fluttered
With stories he spied in the coals bright.
Vissions and wonders of life flickered strangely.
The skin of the world gave way to a void.
Deep in the night his soul traveled freely
And sang with the choir of stars.
Down below where his body lay sleeping,
The fire has settles, sparks faded away.
Yet high above in the clear night sky
Countless stars continue to shine.
In the broad bowl of night they shine on
Never ending their song.
Once on a night a young man went riding.
The air was so light he felt he was flying.
